Project Description
Arabic Unlocked is an Arabic language learning app with a focus on presenting Qur’anic content and stories. Arabic Unlocked application itself was done by Pixune for our UK based client. We designed and developed the app from scratch, from business canvas to designing mascot to UI design and gamification, it was all done in-house. After a fruitful collaboration on the application, the client wanted us to create a fun commercial for the occasion of Ramadan celebrations.
The Arabic Unlocked commercial project had to be done in a very tight schedule. We only had 1 month before Ramadan to start and finish the project otherwise all our effort would have been wasted if we missed Ramadan. Even under intense pressure, we managed to deliver a fun and creative commercial starring Kamal the Camel! Designing and then using that talking camel mascot felt very satisfying to us. Especially when the commercial hit every mark we had in mind for it at the beginning.
“Arabic Unlocked” commercial was distributed on TV channels, YouTube and social media.
Script
[Exterior – Ka’ba – Day]
A group of Muslims are performing “tawaf” around Ka’ba.
[Interior – Mosque – Unknown]
An old man in Haj clothing is trying to read Quran but is confused and scratches the back of his head.
Narrator: You want to read and understand Quran in Arabic.
[Exterior – Park – Day]
A group of three girls are talking and laughing. Two of the girls talk easily why the third is having a hard time understanding them.
Narrator: To speak Arabic with your friends.
[Exterior – Arabic Urban Environment – Day]
A European tourist is trying to ask direction from a couple in traditional Arabic attire. He is using body language and is unable to communicate. He looks frustrated in a close-up shot.
Narrator: To have conversations with locals when traveling.
[Information Screen]
The old man, the girl and the tourist from previous shots appear on the screen while the narrator explains (with caption on screen).
Narrator: But Arabic is one of the hardest languages in the world to learn.
[Information Screen]
Kamal the mascot appears on the screen, winking and waving his hand. Then Kamal holds the screen of the phone he is holding toward the screen. It shows the Arabic Unlocked app. Then Kamal disappears and only the phone remains in the middle of the screen, showing different features of the app one after another while the narrator goes on.
